Hair

Hair: Written Originally by Jennifer Soh Li Wen, 3rd July 2011, Sunday, 10:38 p.m.-11:15 p.m.

“Darling, if Mommy is ill, will you be there for me?

Darling, if Mommy has white hair, will you laugh at me?

Darling, if Mommy has short hair, will you comb for me?

Darling, if Mommy is bald, will you oil for me?”

Pity the child,

It’s his first time;

He’s only nine,

His name is Zwyle.

Mom adopted him when she turned 30,

When she found herself lonely;

She’s an Asian,

He’s an African.

Both of them live together,

She makes his life better;

She has been longing for a son,

She jogs with him and they even run.

People see them differently,

They don’t mind completely;

Skin color doesn’t matter,

Both really love each other.

Mom has a reason to raise him,

One day she explained to him;

She doesn’t want to get married,

She couldn’t stand Rachel and Jesse.

Being a stepmother was not easy,

Every day she ended up crying;

Finally she wants to be free,

She broke up with boyfriend, Kenjy.

Single mother with bravery,

She has her own bakery;

She has her big imaginary,

She wants her own factory.

Being too ambitious has brought her to the hospital,

Working too hard both day and night;

Everything to her is vital,

That includes reading her son Mr. Midnight.

This illness is killing her,

She smiles when he calls her mother;

He understands her condition,

He comforts her emotion.

Cancer is biting her,

Chemotherapy is costing her;

Little Zwyle is needing her,

She just needs to be tougher.

Because of him she’s calmer,

Thank God through this he’s smarter;

Years passed by and she is healed,

Her business is also built.

He doesn’t care how Mom looks like,

He knows her deeply in his heart;

He takes care of Mommy like a star,

He folded cranes jar by jar.

Hair falling didn’t tear them apart,

She didn’t scare him with that;

He promises to be Mom’s bodyguard,

He’s a loving son Mom can never forget.
