Purple and Pink

Purple and Pink: Written Originally by Jennifer Soh Li Wen, 27th October-28th October 2012, Saturday-Sunday, 11:23 p.m.-12:19 a.m., Room 319, Block H06, Desasiswa Bakti Permai, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang, Malaysia, Specially Dedicated to the Happy Birthday Girl, Miss Sally Yeow Seh Lee, my Lovely Best Friend since our Memorable Childhood Days of the Kindergarten and Primary One, Shah Alam, Selangor Darul Ehsan…

Everyone is a color,
Everyone has a color;
Everyone is a flower,
Everyone has a flower.

My dearest Seh Lee,
Oh, how long has it been?
Meeting up with Teacher Celine,
Missing Nicole with grief and glee.

Remember our childhood days?
Our Tadika Melody and SRK Seksyen 6?
Sadly, we went different ways,
My heart… it aches.

How have you been?
We haven’t been talking lately;
Let’s make the bond a magic bean,
Jack will help us grow it daily.

Tadika Melody,
Remember Asyraf and Sharifah?
My Mom and Teacher Ivy?
We learnt from counting to zirafah.

Sports Day/Family Day,
Lari dalam guni;
Red caps all day,
We were that tiny.

Concert Day,
Melodeons up!
Yours green and mine blue,
We were in red, too!

Still on Concert Day,
You’re purple and I’m pink;
Dancing so happily,
Waist-twisting all the way!

Don’t think I’ll forget,
You were the Little Red Riding Hood;
The Wolf was all set,
Funny but his hunt was good.

Oh my,
Look at the time;
Here I write,
Approaching my deadline.

Where was I?
Ah, the Concert!
I was dancing Portuguese with a guy,
I was super rough in skirt!

Tadika reminds me of Tan Wei Cheong,
Do you still remember?
He kissed my melodeon case if I’m not wrong,
I would say he could be my kindergarten lover.

Then, it was 1 Melur,
We watched each other grow;
We wore tailor-made cheongsam,
Took photos also with some.

Standard 1,
I was naughty;
I stamped shoeprints,
On the girl’s pinafore.

How bad I was,
Apologized at fault;
She sang an Indian song,
It went, “Pramira pramira pramira wawa.”

Dear Indian girl,
Please forgive me;
You’re tall and bigger,
Those that I can never be.

My dearest Seh Lee,
How long has it been?
Twenty years of friendship,
And still cheerfully counting.

The 5 years old we,
And the 25 years old we;
How much we still care,
You look sweet with your long hair.

You saw your passion in Pharmacy,
Mine in Communication writing;
Let’s contribute with specialty,
Let’s reach those who are waiting.

I’ve exceeded midnight,
But I’m no Cinderella or Snow White;
I hope it’s not too late to wish goodnight,
I hope you’ve eaten the cake to the last bite.

My best friend,
Take my hand;
There’s no “The End”,
We love and understand.

Blessed and Happy Birthday!
2012’s 27th October, Saturday;
25 is just a number to say,
I know it since before Labor Day.

Our schooling days,
Sunny and rainy days;
Cikgu Salina has been great,
We weren’t even 8.

That was when I left Shah Alam,
For Bandar Sri Damansara;
The clock still ticks its alarm,
You and I’ll never bid sayounara.

Let’s depend on technology for now,
As WhatsApp has allowed;
Soon we meet up aloud,
Chatting from 5 W’s and 1 How.

I shall let your eyes rest,
I’ve written a test;
From East to West,
Know that you’re the best!

P/S: 12:49 a.m.-12:51 a.m.

I miss eating keropok,
Cotton candy ice-cream and jeruk;
I miss writing letters like before,
Patience of days of three to four.

“I miss you so, Seh Lee… Thank you very much and sorry for everything…”
