If You Think You Are Not Me

If You Think You Are Not Me
Written Originally by Jennifer Soh Li Wen, 9th September 2012, Saturday, 2:46 p.m.-3:37 p.m., In My Room, USM Hostel, This is Specially Dedicated to My Charming Brother and Persona, Peter Soh Weng Khai.

Curtain.

Do you remember?
Now that it is September;
Forget about Justin Bieber,
Let’s talk about our member.

Starbucks and University Heights,
Both sparkle with lights;
We talk about our prides,
We laugh and cry about our sides.

Our Sri Nibong’s lao di fang,
My room in Desasiswa Bakti Permai;
We sing the songs unsung,
We don’t know when we’ll die.

Humanity,
Sexuality;
Dignity,
Priority.

Motherhood,
Childhood;
Neighbourhood,
Schoolhood.

Nationality,
Culturality;
Raciality,
Religionality.

Who are we?
Do you know me?
If you think you are not me,
Please shut up and leave.

Stop the judging,
Bring back the understanding;
Open up your mind more foreign,
Make your life less boring.

What’s wrong with me?
Who are you to point at me?
Aren’t you human, too?
You speak my language, too.

Dear you,
You’re not me;
You think of the opposite,
Of whom I’m before you.

Stop pretending,
Here I’m standing;
Take me or leave me,
Stop assuming,
Stop hating,
Stop regretting;
Stop thinking I’m who you believe,
I don’t want and need you to be sorry,
You can’t change me,
Stop being a busybody,
Pick your words up wisely.

Don’t mix all of our personal backgrounds,
Can’t we be as colourful as clowns?
Why do we have sighs and frowns?
When we speak on ourselves with our own mouths?

Heterosexuality,
Homosexuality;
Bisexuality,
Transgenderality.

Before I was even born,
God already knew me;
Why then must I be torn?
I live only for me.

I thank my Mother,
The bearer;
The survivor,
The ultimate caretaker.

Mothers are not to be blamed,
DNAs are fixed and framed;
I’m who I’m today,
I don’t care what you say.

Do all of the whatever as you may,
Leave me alone from your brain;
Your heart also okay,
I choose who I wanna spend my day.

Friendship,
Relationship;
Hypocrite,
Concrete.

Total Recall,
Rise and fall;
True and false,
Play and pause.

I’m not a disgrace,
I’m not in any race;
So what if I love lace?
So what if I love make-up on my face?

Don’t worry about hurting my heart,
It’s very strong from Science to Art;
In all that you do I wish you good luck?
At least when I quack I sound like a duck.

Read more books,
See your looks;
I’ve nothing to lose,
Why follow all of the rules?

I’m my difference,
I’m my reference;
I don’t need your preference,
I don’t need your entrance.

This is my story,
I’m proud of me;
I’m not lonely,
Their hands are clapping for me.

Curtain.

P/S: This is the last message from me,
        Excuse me only for now definitely;
        Reminiscence of the essence of my upbringing,
        I’m gonna show my part by saving the existing.
